Javier Faroni sells Italian club Perugia amid AFA financial investigations
Argentine businessman Javier Faroni has sold 100 percent of his shares in the Italian football club Perugia to the Arenacuri group. The sale follows nearly three months of negotiations and occurs as judicial authorities investigate the financial circuits used to acquire the Serie C club in 2024.
Faroni, who is linked to Argentine Football Association (AFA) officials Claudio Tapia and Pablo Toviggino, is currently under scrutiny regarding the movement of funds through various international entities. Investigations have focused on TourProdEnter LLC, a US-based company associated with Faroni and Erica Gillette, which was involved in collecting approximately 400 million dollars in international commercial contracts for the AFA.
Reports indicate that millions of dollars were moved through various jurisdictions, with some funds allegedly linked to the corporate structure used to purchase Perugia. Additionally, US prosecutors in Miami have requested documentation from related firms, such as TourProdEnter, to assist in a grand jury investigation. The sale marks the end of Faroni's management of the Italian institution, which began in September 2024.
