Javier Fesser receives Luis Ciges Prize at Islantilla Film Festival

Filmmaker Javier Fesser has been awarded the ‘Luis Ciges’ 2026 Prize at the Islantilla International Film Festival. The honor, which serves as the festival's highest honorary distinction, will be presented during the closing ceremony at the Hotel Estival Islantilla.

During a press conference, Fesser reflected on the legacy of the late actor Luis Ciges, whom he had the privilege of directing in his first film. He praised Ciges for his extreme humility, generosity, and natural ability to convey emotion. Fesser also discussed the social responsibility of cinema, stating that film has the capacity to transform society and help remove prejudices by allowing audiences to understand different perspectives.

Fesser expressed gratitude for the professional freedom he has achieved after four decades in the industry. He noted that his current position allows him to focus on storytelling and character development without the need to prove himself, emphasizing that characters are the most vital element of any film.
