Javier Marías's personal archive acquired by Spain for 500,000 euros

The Spanish Ministry of Culture has acquired the personal archive of the late novelist Javier Marías for 500,000 euros. The collection will be incorporated into the National Library of Spain (BNE).

In addition to the purchase, Marías's widow, Carme López Rodríguez-Mercader, has donated his personal library and significant portions of his documentary legacy. The archive provides a detailed look at the author's creative process, containing typed originals of his novels, various drafts, and handwritten corrections and annotations.

The collection also includes press articles, extensive correspondence—such as letters, faxes, and interviews—and documentation regarding his professional relationships and editorial discussions. Other donated items include photographs, audiovisual materials, and various personal documents.
