Javier Martín del Campo Muriel, founder of La Revolución de Emiliano Zapata, dies at 75

Javier Martín del Campo Muriel, known as “Javis,” the guitarist, composer and founder of the Mexican rock group La Revolución de Emiliano Zapata, died at the age of 75. The death was announced on the band’s official Instagram account and confirmed by the Sociedad de Autores y Compositores de México (SACM), which praised his contributions to the nation’s musical heritage.

Born on 8 April 1951 in San Luis Potosí and based in Guadalajara, he founded the band in 1969. The group achieved early fame with the 1971 hit “Nasty Sex,” reaching audiences in Mexico, the United States and Europe, and performed at the historic Festival de Avándaro. In the late 1970s the band shifted toward romantic ballads, producing classics such as “Mi forma de sentir” and “Mi mejor regalo,” songs that remain widely covered. No official cause of death has been released.
