Milei visits Washington to promote economic model and support Trump and Bolsonaro

Argentine President Javier Milei conducted a 36-hour visit to Washington, D.C., to engage with international investors and political allies. During a Hispanic Heritage gala, Milei received the Hispanic Heritage Leadership and Global Impact Award and the Global Champion of Free Enterprise award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

In his speeches, Milei expressed strong political support for Donald Trump in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections and endorsed Flávio Bolsonaro for the Brazilian presidency. He criticized Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, referring to him as a “communist dictator,” and expressed support for Jair Bolsonaro, whom he stated is unjustly imprisoned.

Addressing economic matters, Milei defended his administration's fiscal adjustments and deregulation policies. He predicted that Argentina's country risk will fall below 100 points by 2027, asserting that the nation is transitioning from an old model to a new one. He also expressed confidence in seeking reelection in 2027.

During the visit, Milei met with U.S. energy official Chris Wright and business leaders including Harold Hamm and Andy Kleinman. He also presided over a ceremony at the Argentine embassy focused on combating antisemitism.
