Javier Milei backs Flávio Bolsonaro in Brazil and attacks President Lula
During a visit to Brazil, Argentine President Javier Milei attended the Liberal Party's national convention in São Paulo, where he received the Order of Ipiranga and praised senator Flávio Bolsonaro as the opposition’s presidential candidate. In his speech Milei denounced Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, calling him a “thief” and “totalitarian,” and also criticised Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes over restrictions on former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Milei later claimed that the Brazilian government was financing an anti‑Argentina campaign on social media during the World Cup, alleging that 25 % of the funding came from Brazil. His remarks came hours after Brazil’s foreign ministry summoned Argentina’s ambassador over Milei’s earlier insults toward President Lula. The visit also included a meeting with São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas.
