Javier Milei's endorsement of Flávio Bolsonaro triggers Brazil-Argentina diplomatic crisis

Diplomatic relations between Argentina and Brazil have deteriorated significantly following actions by Argentine President Javier Milei. Milei recently attended a political convention in Brazil to support the presidential candidacy of Flávio Bolsonaro, during which he directed insults toward Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

In response to these tensions, the Brazilian government downgraded its diplomatic representation in Argentina to the level of chargé d'affaires. The friction has also extended to the United States, where the Trump administration revoked the visa of Brazil's ambassador to Washington, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, amid ongoing diplomatic disputes.

Furthermore, a Genial/Quaest poll indicates that Milei's intervention in Brazilian politics may be having an unintended electoral effect. According to the survey, 34% of Brazilians believe Milei's support for Flávio Bolsonaro increases their likelihood of voting for Lula, while 27% say it increases their support for Bolsonaro. Additionally, Milei has accused the Brazilian government of financing an anti-Argentina campaign.
