Latin American leaders face shifting approval ratings amid papal health concerns

A new CB Global Data survey of 18 Latin American presidents reveals significant variations in public approval. Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico leads the region with a 69.3% positive image, followed by Nayib Bukele of El Salvador at 68.3%. Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic holds third place with 51.9%. In contrast, Argentine President Javier Milei ranks 14th with a 36.1% approval rating and a 59% disapproval rating.

Simultaneously, Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to undergo surgery at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome to remove a lung nodule. Despite the procedure, the Pope expressed confidence and reaffirmed his intention to visit Argentina, currently scheduled for November 8 to November 11. President Milei noted that the Argentine government is prepared to reschedule the visit if necessary due to the Pontiff's health.

In economic news, Argentine Economy Minister Luis Caputo met with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Bangkok. Georgieva praised Argentina's fiscal discipline, though the IMF has recently lowered its growth forecast for the country to 2.1% for 2026. Meanwhile, President Milei is undertaking his fifth trip to the United States this year, focusing on a three-day agenda in Washington D.C. to meet with business leaders, address the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and receive international leadership awards.
