Javier Romo leaves Movistar early to join Netcompany INEOS
Spanish cyclist Javier Romo is leaving the Movistar Team ahead of schedule. Although his current contract was set to run until the end of 2028, Romo and the team have mutually agreed to terminate their partnership early.
Reports from Marca suggest that Romo, 27, will join Netcompany INEOS. While not yet officially confirmed, the move follows a period where Romo achieved notable results, including a stage win and second place in the general classification at the 2025 Santos Tour Down Under, as well as a seventh-place finish at the Tour of the Basque Country.
Romo’s departure is part of a broader trend of riders seeking new opportunities despite long-term contracts. Other notable early departures include Giulio Ciccone, who will leave Lidl-Trek for Pinarello Q36.5, and Richard Carapaz, who is moving from EF Education-EasyPost to the NSN Cycling Team.
