Spain implements TDT technological transition to UHD and DVB-T2
Spain has initiated a major reorganization of its Digital Terrestrial Television (TDT) system, transitioning to the DVB-T2 standard to enable Ultra High Definition (UHD) broadcasts. This technical shift, part of the National Technical Plan, allows major channels including La 1, La 2, Antena 3, and Telecinco to offer UHD content alongside their existing HD signals.
The reorganization requires many viewers to resintonize their televisions to maintain access to all channels. While most existing HD services remain accessible on older equipment, five specific channels—Clan, Boing, Be Mad, Atreseries, and DKISS—are changing frequencies and may disappear from the dial without a new channel search.
Additionally, a new national channel, La Séptima, has launched as part of this transition. The new station focuses on current affairs, political analysis, and live debates. While the upgrade provides superior image and sound quality, it does not mandate the purchase of new hardware, as older televisions can continue to receive standard HD broadcasts.
