Javier Talavera, director of Honduras' INA, dies in Tegucigalpa
Javier Talavera, the director of Honduras’ National Agrarian Institute (INA), passed away on Sunday morning in a Tegucigalpa hospital. The news was confirmed by Axel González, the institution’s head of communications.
Talavera had been performing official duties on Friday before experiencing a health setback on Saturday. His condition worsened overnight, leading to his death in the hospital on Sunday morning. While specific causes of death have not been officially detailed, reports suggest natural causes resulting from health complications.
Since assuming leadership in March 2026 following his appointment by President Nasry Asfura, Talavera focused on land regularization and the distribution of property titles to farmers and peasant organizations. His death has caused significant grief among INA employees, regional offices, and agricultural federations. The institution described him as a humble official committed to the rule of law.
