Javier Tebas warns of player breaking point due to match congestion
La Liga President Javier Tebas has warned that professional footballers are approaching a ‘breaking point’ due to increasingly dense match schedules. Speaking at a summit in London organized by the global players' union, FIFPRO, Tebas emphasized the rising risk of injuries caused by an excessive workload.
Tebas identified the expanded Club World Cup and the 48-team World Cup format as primary factors increasing the burden on players. He stated that the current trajectory is unsustainable and called for decisive intervention from FIFA and UEFA to prevent the situation from worsening.
Maheta Molango, head of the association representing English league players, supported these concerns. He noted that high-profile players such as Kylian Mbappé, Kai Havertz, and others are affected, questioning the current structure of international football windows.
