Javorník Mountain Observation Tower Near Liberec Opens September
A new observation tower has been completed on the existing telecommunications mast beside the "Obří sud" (Big Barrel) at Javorník mountain, just outside Liberec in the Czech Republic. The structure incorporates a staircase, resting platforms and a viewing balcony 34.6 metres above ground, accessed via 186 steps, making it the highest such platform in the Liberec region. The project, overseen by Adventure Park Liberec, is slated for opening in the second half of September, pending final access works and certification.
The tower revives a historic pair of landmarks: the original wooden Blaschkova tower was erected in 1924 beside the hotel Obří sud (opened 1899) and was removed after World War II, while a fire destroyed the hotel in 1974. The modern recreation of Obří sud returned in 2011, and after more than seven decades the observation tower now joins it, expanding the area's appeal for tourists, families and sport enthusiasts.
