Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority expands rail connectivity and cargo capacity

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is working to improve container evacuation by exploring strategic railway nodes along the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). Port officials recently inspected facilities at Kharbhav and New Nilanje railway stations to evaluate their potential as freight nodes. The goal is to strengthen connectivity with major logistics and warehousing hubs like Bhiwandi, reducing transit times and reliance on road transportation.

In a separate operational milestone, the Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal (NSDT) achieved its highest-ever break-bulk cargo handling performance by weight. The terminal successfully processed two separate shipments of 1,667 metric tonnes each. This achievement highlights the port's increasing capacity to manage specialized, non-containerized cargo as India's trade volumes diversify.
