Jawaharlal Nehru University faces controversy over campus slogans

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been embroiled in controversy following the discovery of provocative slogans written on campus walls. The slogans include demands to ‘Free Umar Khalid’ and the phrase ‘Long Live Naxalbari’. Additionally, offensive remarks were reportedly written near an image of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has condemned the incident, accusing the All India Students Association (AISA) and the JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) of undermining the academic environment and promoting ideological conflict. ABVP leaders stated that insulting national figures and damaging public property under the guise of freedom of expression is unacceptable, calling for strict legal action against those responsible.

JNU administration has initiated an investigation into the matter. This incident follows similar occurrences of provocative slogans recently reported at Jamia Millia Islamia university.
