JNU campus faces controversy over provocative graffiti

Graffiti featuring slogans such as ‘Free Umar Khalid’ and ‘Long Live Naxalbari’ has appeared on the walls of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi, sparking a political row. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has accused left-wing student organizations, specifically mentioning the All India Students’ Association (AISA), of using provocative writing to disturb the university’s academic environment.

The ABVP further alleged that objectionable graffiti was written near a portrait of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The university administration has taken cognizance of the matter and launched an investigation, stating that it will not tolerate actions that disturb campus peace or damage public property.

This incident follows a similar controversy at Jamia Millia Islamia University, where ‘Free Kashmir’ and ‘Free Sharjeel Imam’ slogans were recently discovered. The recurring presence of such slogans at major Delhi universities has drawn sharp criticism from members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), who have characterized the acts as attempts to spread anarchy and terrorism.
