Jaworzno Examination Commission reports rise in matura exam review requests

The District Examination Commission (OKE) in Jaworzno has reported an increase in requests from students to review their graded matura examination papers compared to the previous year. OKE officials noted that the higher interest may be due to a larger number of examinees and easier access to the review procedure.

Following controversy regarding comments made by Ewa Knapik, Head of the General Education Examination Department, who described the trend as a “compulsive, global calling for reviews” involving school directors and teachers, the OKE clarified that these remarks did not constitute an official position of the Commission. The Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP) has criticized the comments, suggesting they unfairly shift responsibility for the high volume of reviews onto educators.

Regarding the 2026 examination cycle, data shows that 81.1% of the 321,314 graduates passed the exams. Approximately 12.3% of students, or nearly 40,000 individuals, failed a single mandatory subject and are eligible for retakes. Students must submit written declarations for retakes by July 15, with written exams scheduled for August 24 and oral exams for August 25.
