JAXA and Innovative Space Carrier partner on reusable rocket technology

JAXA and the startup Innovative Space Carrier (ISC) have launched a collaborative project to develop reusable rocket technology. The partnership, operating under the JAXA Space Innovation Partnership (J-SPARC) framework, began in September 2026.

The collaboration aims to enhance modeling technology required for reusable rockets. ISC will provide design models and test data from its ASCA series, specifically focusing on landing mechanisms and engines, including data on deformation, strain, and fluid pressure. JAXA will use this data to improve the accuracy of its analytical models and develop universal modeling techniques that are not limited to specific vehicle types. In return, JAXA will provide technical support to ISC regarding model application and analysis methods.

This initiative seeks to accelerate the development of high-frequency, low-cost space transportation services and bolster Japan's overall space transport capabilities amidst intensifying global competition from entities like SpaceX.
