Jaxon Kohler commits to BYU from Michigan State

Jaxon Kohler, a 6-foot-10 center formerly of Michigan State, has committed to BYU. The American Fork, Utah native chose the Cougars over programs including Kentucky, Louisville, and Kansas.

Kohler’s ability to play a fifth season of college basketball follows a legal injunction in California that allows certain fifth-year graduated players to maintain eligibility. During his senior season at Michigan State, Kohler averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 to 8.9 rebounds per game, while shooting approximately 39% from the three-point line.

The addition is viewed as a significant recruiting victory for BYU head coach Kevin Young, addressing a long-standing need for a starting center and a floor-stretching big man.
