Actor Jay Baruchel attended the world premiere of ‘The Stunt Driver’ at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, September 11, 2026. The Montreal-born actor expressed his commitment to supporting the Canadian film industry, stating he intends to use his Hollywood recognition to help promote domestic productions.

The film follows the true story of Ken Carter, a stuntman known as ‘The Mad Canadian,’ who attempted to jump a rocket-powered car over the St. Lawrence River in the 1970s to compete with American rival Evel Knievel. Director Michael Dowse noted that filming occurred during a Canada-U.S. trade war, which influenced the film’s tone and some improvised dialogue between Baruchel’s character and Knievel, played by Dan Bakkedahl.
