Jay Clayton's DNI Nomination Advanced by Senate Intelligence Committee

The Senate Intelligence Committee voted 9‑8 along party lines to advance President Donald Trump's nominee Jay Clayton to become Director of National Intelligence. Clayton, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and former SEC chairman, is now awaiting a full Senate vote.

Acting DNI Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, has been serving in the role since Tulsi Gabbard’s resignation. Democratic senators criticized Clayton for refusing to acknowledge President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory, while Republicans hope to confirm the nomination before the Senate recess in August.
