Jay M. Bernstein Receives Helmuth‑Plessner Prize in Wiesbaden

The city of Wiesbaden and the Helmuth‑Plessner Society have awarded the 2026 Helmuth‑Plessner Prize, worth €20,000, to American philosopher Jay M. Bernstein, recognized for promoting Helmuth Plessner’s philosophical anthropology in the United States.

The award ceremony will take place on 4 September, Plessner’s birthday, in the Festsaal of Wiesbaden City Hall. After the ceremony, Bernstein will deliver a public lecture titled “Earth Citizens: Plessner’s Philosophical Anthropology in the Age of Climate Change,” presented in English. A scientific workshop on Bernstein’s work will follow on 5 September, both in‑person and digitally. Additional cultural events, including a screening of the film “Silent Friend,” are scheduled around the prize festivities.
