Jay Sawvel reprimanded by Mountain West Conference

The Mountain West Conference has issued a public reprimand to Wyoming head coach Jay Sawvel for his criticism of game officials. The disciplinary action follows Sawvel’s comments during a postgame press conference regarding a holding penalty called against center Chandler Donaway late in a game against San Jose State.

Sawvel described the officiating as “egregious” and used strong language to characterize the call, which occurred with six seconds remaining in regulation. The penalty negated a 25-yard pass play, preventing the Cowboys from attempting a potential game-winning field goal. The reprimand cites MW Administrative Regulation 11.2.7, which governs sportsmanship and the public criticism of officials.
