Jay Weinberg discusses seeking therapy after Slipknot dismissal

Former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has discussed his journey with mental health following his dismissal from the band in November 2023. In an interview with HeartSupport, Weinberg described the emotional aftermath of his departure as feeling like a “tangled ball of rusted barbed wire.”

Weinberg noted that finding the right mental health professional required perseverance. After previous experiences with therapy in his early 20s did not feel like a perfect match, he eventually found a therapist through a trusted friend. He described the breakthrough as “an unlocking of a door” that he had previously struggled to open.

The period was compounded by physical health challenges, as Weinberg underwent hip surgery to repair a torn labrum and address a femur issue just two weeks after his departure from the band. He currently meets with a therapist once a week to manage anxiety and the pressures of life as a professional musician.
