Lil Durk seeks bail using future music earnings as collateral
Rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Banks, has filed a motion for pretrial release as he awaits a federal racketeering and firearms trial scheduled for August 2027. The proposal includes a significant financial guarantee, offering his future music royalties, touring revenue, publishing rights, and branding income as collateral. Additionally, Sony Music Entertainment has offered to post an appearance bond of up to $1 million.
High-profile figures have submitted letters to U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald in support of the motion. Jay-Z and J. Cole emphasized Durk’s personal growth and his efforts to provide career paths for young artists in his community. Michael Rubin of the REFORM Alliance and former Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx also voiced support, with Foxx noting that Durk was recently acquitted of murder-for-hire charges in a separate trial.
Notably, the mother of Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, a victim in the case for which Durk was acquitted, stated she does not oppose his release if the court deems it appropriate. Durk’s legal team argues that the robust financial package ensures he will not flee, as a violation would leave him and his family destitute.
