Jay-Z and Rick Rubin to premiere documentary series ‘Jay-Z In 8’

Jay-Z and producer Rick Rubin are set to release ‘Jay-Z In 8’, an eight-part documentary series premiering September 18, 2026. The series, which marks Rubin’s directorial debut, features intimate conversations between the two artists as they revisit Jay-Z’s three-decade career through his music. The project arrives during the 30th anniversary of his debut album, ‘Reasonable Doubt’.

In North America, the series will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max, with two episodes debuting initially and two new installments arriving every Friday through October 9. Internationally, MUBI has acquired the rights, providing access to audiences in regions such as Australia and Europe.

The documentary focuses on the creative process and personal evolution of the rapper, using iconic tracks like ‘99 Problems’, ‘Brooklyn’s Finest’, and ‘4:44’ as entry points for discussion. Executive producers include Shawn Carter, Rick Rubin, and Daniel Kaluuya.

In conjunction with these celebrations, Jay-Z is also expanding his live presence with stadium shows in 2026, including scheduled dates in London, Paris, and Los Angeles.
