Jay-Z in 8 docuseries concludes on HBO

The eight-part HBO docuseries ‘Jay-Z in 8’ has concluded with its final two installments, released on October 9. Directed by Rick Rubin, the series explores the life, career, and cultural impact of the hip-hop mogul.

Episode seven focuses on major musical projects and hits, including ‘Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)’, ‘Empire State of Mind’, and ‘The Blueprint 3’. During this episode, Jay-Z discusses his evolving relationship with art and his transition into art collecting around 2009. The episode also features a lengthy conversation between Jay-Z and Rubin regarding loyalty, betrayal, and the history behind ‘Dead Presidents II’.

Episode eight examines the political and social themes present in Jay-Z’s discography. Key tracks discussed include ‘The Story of O. J.’, ‘No Church in the Wild’, ‘Family Feud’, and ‘Legacy’. The series aims to reinforce the thesis that rap serves as a foundational American art form.

The production is a Tetragrammaton project, executive produced by Jay-Z, Rick Rubin, and Daniel Kaluuya.
