Jay-Z reveals dispute with Kanye West over MAGA lyric

In the HBO Max docuseries ‘Jay-Z in 8’, rapper Jay-Z detailed a 2021 dispute with Kanye West regarding a lyric on West’s album ‘Donda’. The conflict centered on a verse in the song ‘Jail’, where Jay-Z included the line, ‘Stop all of that red cap / we going home.’

Jay-Z explained that the lyric was a critique of the ‘Make America Great Again’ movement. According to the artist, West expressed discomfort with the line and requested that it be changed. Jay-Z refused to alter the lyric, stating, ‘Sorry, I’m not gonna change it. That’s how I feel.’

Jay-Z noted that while he understood West’s position, he suggested that if the line was too controversial for the project, West should simply remove the verse entirely, as it was West’s album. Ultimately, the verse remained on the final version of the album.
