BNN arrests drug kingpin MR in Kampung Bahari raid

The Indonesian National Narcotics Board (BNN) has arrested a major drug kingpin known as MR, or ‘Bos Gendut,’ in connection with a 98-kilogram methamphetamine case. The arrest took place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, after officers tracked the suspect from Kampung Bahari in North Jakarta to a beauty salon in Mangga Besar.

During the operation in Kampung Bahari, BNN officers and Brimob faced violent resistance from supporters of the suspect, who used stones and firecrackers to attack the personnel. Law enforcement responded with tear gas to disperse the crowd. One police officer sustained an injury to the eye during the confrontation.

In addition to the arrest of MR and two associates, authorities seized significant evidence, including 98 kilograms of crystal meth, firearms, ammunition, gold bars, and various weapons. The BNN is also investigating suspected money laundering, having already seized approximately Rp1.277 billion in cash and assets valued at roughly Rp39.95 billion.
