Jayapura Tourism Villages Accelerated to Boost Local Economy

The Jayapura city tourism department is speeding up the conversion of several villages into tourism hubs to generate new income for residents. Acting head of the department, Richard Nahumury, announced priority development for Kampung Kayo Pulau, Kampung Kayo Batu and other sites in the Skouw area. The program combines physical infrastructure upgrades with training for locals on tourism management and cultural preservation, aiming to enhance visitor appeal and support small‑and‑medium enterprises.

Local communities are being involved in planning and operation to ensure sustainable tourism that respects traditional values while creating economic opportunities for youth and micro‑businesses.
