Jayden Daniels to avoid surgery for left elbow dislocation
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will avoid surgery and a stint on injured reserve following a second dislocation of his left elbow. The injury occurred during a Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
General Manager Adam Peters confirmed that after consulting specialists, the team has decided against surgery. While Daniels will miss the upcoming Week 3 home opener against the Seattle Seahawks, the decision to avoid injured reserve suggests he could return to the field within a few weeks rather than being sidelined for a minimum of four games.
Veteran Marcus Mariota is expected to start in place of Daniels this Sunday. The Commanders, currently 0-2, face a 2-0 Seattle Seahawks team in the matchup. The Seahawks are also managing quarterback uncertainty, with a decision pending on whether Sam Darnold or Drew Lock will start.
