Jayne James sentenced after car crashes into Ellesmere Port nursery

Jayne James, 63, has been sentenced at Chester Magistrates' Court following a dangerous driving incident in Ellesmere Port that occurred on 16 June. James pleaded guilty to dangerous driving after her automatic Omoda vehicle crashed through a wooden fence and into a nursery playground during school drop-off.

The collision involved 22 children aged between two and three years old. A two-year-old boy was pinned between the vehicle's front wheel and a brick wall, sustaining a significant friction burn to his torso. Two other children were injured by flying debris. All three children were subsequently discharged from the hospital with minor injuries.

During the investigation, police found no mechanical faults with the vehicle. James had claimed that a specific pedal feature caused unintended acceleration, but authorities determined the incident resulted from an inability to control the vehicle. James received a two-year driving ban and a 12-month suspended prison sentence of four months.
