Jazan agricultural diversity supports Saudi food security

The Jazan region is playing an increasingly vital role in Saudi Arabia’s national food security and supply-chain resilience efforts. Through diverse agricultural output, the region supports the country’s Vision 2030 goals by providing a wide range of tropical fruits, cereals, and vegetables.

Key production statistics from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture include approximately 65,000 tons of mangoes annually from one million trees, and over 40,000 tons of papayas from 800,000 trees. The region also produces 15,000 tons of bananas and significant quantities of figs, guava, and custard apples.

In addition to fruit, field crops such as sorghum are grown on more than 60,000 hectares, yielding over 55,000 tons per year for local consumption and livestock feed.
