Jazmín Bugarín clarifies dual nationality status amid political appointment
Jazmín Bugarín Rodríguez, the Morena coordinator for Nayarit, has addressed controversies regarding her dual nationality. While Bugarín recently announced she was initiating procedures at the U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara to renounce her American citizenship, government officials provided clarifying information regarding her legal status.
Luisa María Alcalde Luján, legal counsel for the Presidency, stated that according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Bugarín had already completed the process to renounce her dual nationality in 2018.
Bugarín, who was born in California to parents from Nayarit, defended her identity by stating she is Mexican by birth under Article 30 of the Mexican Constitution. She emphasized that her decision to renounce foreign citizenship is a matter of conviction and loyalty to Mexico and her service to the state of Nayarit.
