Jazz musicians honor Miles Davis and John Coltrane centenaries

The year 2026 marks the centenary of the births of jazz legends Miles Davis and John Coltrane, prompting various musical tributes and celebrations worldwide.

In Sicily, musician Giovanni Falzone has released ‘Suite for Miles’, a tribute album inspired by Davis’s ‘Dark Magus’. Performing with a quintet that mirrors Davis’s 1960s lineup, Falzone includes four original compositions alongside Davis’s works. The ensemble features Raffaele Fiengo on alto saxophone, Massimiliano Cameroni on piano, Giuseppe La Grutta on electric bass, and Riccardo Marchese on drums.

In Portugal, the 27th edition of the AngraJazz festival will take place from October 2 to 4 at the Centro Cultural e de Congressos de Angra do Heroísmo. The festival will honor the legacies of Davis and Coltrane through a diverse program of concerts. The Orquestra Angrajazz is scheduled to open the event with ‘Miles & Gil’, a performance focusing on the specific musical relationships established by the trumpeter.
