JBS partners with Indonesia's Danantara sovereign fund in $5 billion joint venture
JBS Group announced a strategic partnership with Danantara Investment Management, the investment arm of Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund. Danantara will invest US$2.5 billion for a 25 % stake in a new joint venture that will hold JBS’s Australia and New Zealand operations. The agreement includes an option for Danantara to contribute a further US$1.7 billion over three years, allowing the venture to raise up to US$5 billion in total capital, including external debt financing. Initial capital will be directed to projects in Indonesia for the first two years, after which the venture can expand to other Southeast Asian markets, as well as Australia and New Zealand. The partnership aims to fund acquisitions, greenfield projects, and modernization of existing facilities. The transaction remains subject to Australian regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, and the parties have agreed on a six‑year lock‑up before a possible IPO of the joint venture. JBS CEO Gilberto Tomazoni said the deal is a key step in the company’s long‑term growth strategy in a region of roughly 745 million people.
