Újbuda deputy mayor honored after injury during police intervention
Máté Kreitler-Sas, the deputy mayor of Újbuda and a member of the local civil guard, has been honored by the civil guard association following a violent incident during a police intervention.
On the night of September 19, Kreitler-Sas and fellow civil guards responded to a call regarding a man refusing to let a woman leave an apartment on Bartók Béla út. During the intervention, the suspect attempted to flee, pushing a police officer down the stairs. When Kreitler-Sas attempted to restrain the man, he was also pulled down the stairs, resulting in a ruptured Achilles tendon that required surgery.
Following the struggle, authorities apprehended the suspect and discovered over one kilogram of marijuana, several grams of cocaine, a scale, and drug packaging during a search of the residence. The suspect tested positive for THC and cocaine. The civil guard association presented Kreitler-Sas with a gold-level award for his bravery and service to the community.
