JC Electronics: Italian officials demand documents on 100 million euro Covid deal

Italian political tension is rising over a 100 million euro transaction involving JC Electronics, a deal related to the purchase of masks during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Ministry of Health has denied requests from opposition senators to access documentation regarding the agreement, citing the involvement of the State Attorney's Office.

Marco Lisei, president of the Covid inquiry commission, has announced a formal request to the Ministry of Health for all relevant documentation. Lisei cited significant errors made by the extraordinary Covid emergency commissioner, as identified by the Court of Rome, and stated that the documents should be made available to all commissioners to ensure transparency.

Opposition leaders, including Francesco Boccia of the Democratic Party, have criticized the government for what they describe as an institutional failure. Boccia argued that the government is using the existence of the Covid commission as a pretext to avoid parliamentary oversight. He emphasized the need for clarity regarding the transaction, which was finalized while an appeal was still pending, and noted that the Rome Prosecutor's Office has also initiated investigations into the matter.
