Júcar Hydrographic Confederation and Valencian municipalities agree on flood prevention
The Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) and the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP) have reached an agreement to strengthen flood prevention measures in the Valencian Community. The pact aims to improve the flow of information regarding flood risks to local town halls and organize training sessions for municipal technicians and citizens.
The meeting, led by CHJ President Miguel Polo and FVMP President Paqui Bartual, follows a period of institutional tension and mutual accusations regarding the management of the DANA weather event that impacted the region in October 2024. Local mayors, particularly from the Horta Nord region, had previously expressed concerns regarding the maintenance and cleaning of riverbeds and ravines, such as the Carraixet ravine.
This collaboration seeks to establish better communication channels and preventative actions ahead of the torrential rain season, addressing municipal concerns about vegetation buildup and the maintenance of watercourses.
