JCB Contactless Payment Launched Across Madrid Metro Network

JCB has introduced its Contactless payment system on Metro de Madrid, allowing passengers to tap their JCB cards or mobile wallets directly at fare gates. The rollout, effective from June 2026, covers all 303 stations and is intended to streamline passenger flow and reduce waiting times, especially during peak periods. Upgraded gate infrastructure with EMV‑enabled readers enables secure transactions, improving accessibility for international travelers and JCB’s 181 million cardmembers. Ray Shinzawa, Managing Director of JCB Europe, said the deployment represents a significant step in expanding everyday acceptance for cardmembers across Europe and enhancing the metro’s accessibility and efficiency.
