JD Sports Fashion acquires full ownership of Cosmos Sport
British retailer JD Sports Fashion has completed the acquisition of the remaining 20% stake in Cosmos Sport, gaining full ownership of the Greek and Cypriot sportswear company. The transaction, involving the exercise of a call option on August 28, is valued at approximately €44 million.
This move follows JD Sports' initial 80% acquisition of the company in 2021. The full takeover strengthens the British group's presence in the Greek market. Cosmos Sport operates an extensive network of physical stores under several brands, including Cosmos Sport, JD Sports, Sneaker10, Slamdunk, and Rundome, employing roughly 2,000 people.
The company has shown significant financial growth, reporting sales of €212.17 million for the 2025 fiscal year, up from €182.71 million the previous year, with pre-tax profits reaching €20.01 million. The acquisition is part of a broader strategy by JD Sports to acquire minority stakes, similar to its recent acquisition of the remaining 2.5% of JD Gyms.
