JD Sports reduces German store network to 60 locations

British sportswear retailer JD Sports is significantly reducing its presence in Germany by closing numerous retail locations. The company's official store finder now lists only 60 German locations, down from 88 in early June.

While initial plans announced in May 2025 suggested the closure of approximately 30 stores due to individual location losses, the current downsizing appears to exceed those original estimates. Confirmed closures include locations in Krefeld, Herne, Wiesbaden, Zwickau, Kiel, and Mülheim-Kärlich. In Zwickau, operations ceased in early August, while a location in Jena is expected to close on August 22 following a clearance sale.

The retailer has also already reduced its footprint in Bavaria, having previously closed stores in Munich and Aschaffenburg. It remains unclear if further closures will occur in cities such as Augsburg, Kempten, Regensburg, Nuremberg, or Erlangen. The company has clarified that this restructuring is not an insolvency.
