JD Vance announces $1.3 billion fertilizer investment in Nebraska
During a campaign rally in North Platte, Nebraska, Vice President JD Vance announced a $1.34 billion investment aimed at boosting domestic fertilizer manufacturing. The initiative, supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, includes approximately $573 million in federal funding through the Fertilizer Investment & Expansion for Long-Term Domestic Supply (FIELDS) Program.
A significant portion of this investment involves the Texas-based company TalusAg, which is slated to receive nearly $100 million to deploy 20 modular ammonia manufacturing units across 11 locations, including Nebraska, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Tennessee, Illinois, and South Dakota. The project aims to reduce costs for farmers by utilizing American energy and resources.
The rally also featured a medical emergency when a woman collapsed in the audience. Vance paused his remarks to lead the crowd in the Lord’s Prayer and personally checked on the individual before continuing his speech. The event served as a platform to endorse several Republican candidates, including Senator Pete Ricketts and Representative Adrian Smith, ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
