JD Vance announces $57M investment in meatpacking facilities
Vice President JD Vance announced that the Department of Agriculture is investing $57 million into American meatpacking facilities through the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program. The initiative aims to increase national self-reliance, support American ranchers, and expand market capacity.
The funding will be distributed via 147 grants across 40 states. During a campaign rally in Kansas, Vance noted that a portion of these investments will specifically benefit 10 facilities within the state. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins stated the move aligns with President Trump’s focus on putting American ranchers first and follows an executive order intended to promote fair competition in livestock markets.
This announcement follows recent administration initiatives, including a $1.3 billion investment in domestic fertilizer manufacturing and expanded access to tax-exempt red-dyed diesel for agricultural use.
