JD Vance calls ‘Emily in Paris’ the Shakespeare of our time
Vice President JD Vance has described the Netflix series ‘Emily in Paris’ as a ‘masterwork of American television’ and ‘the Shakespeare of our time.’
Vance shared his analysis in a TikTok video following criticism from a friend. He argued that the show serves as a ‘massive cultural criticism of millennial decision making.’ He specifically noted that while the protagonist, Emily, and the French chef, Gabriel, should ideally marry and start a family, the characters make a ‘series of absurd, sometimes hilarious’ mistakes that prevent them from being together.
This is not the first time Vance has commented on the series. During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience in October 2024, he initially referred to the show as ‘some stupid show’ before quickly correcting himself to call it a ‘masterpiece.’
