JD Vance campaigns in Alaska amid Senate race and Iran tensions
During a campaign visit to Alaska, Vice President JD Vance addressed both domestic electoral competition and international security concerns. In Fairbanks, Vance supported Republican Senator Dan Sullivan in his contested reelection race against Democrat Mary Peltola. Vance criticized Peltola’s congressional attendance record and her stance on the Alaska Right to Produce Act, which aims to reduce federal restrictions on oil and gas leases.
Peltola defended her position on the legislation, noting that she opposed specific provisions that would eliminate special designations for the Northern Bering Sea Climate Resilience Area, an area intended to protect tribal management authority and fishing communities.
In an interview regarding foreign policy, Vance commented on tensions with Iran. He stated that Iran is attempting to “terrorize the world economy” by targeting commercial shipping in response to the destruction of its nuclear program. Vance asserted that the United States would continue to respond to economic pressure tactics by increasing pressure on Iran.
