JD Vance discusses religious end-times theories in podcast

U.S. Vice President JD Vance has drawn attention following comments regarding religious end-times theories during an appearance on The Bryce Crawford Podcast. During the discussion, Vance stated he would not be ‘shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us’ and speculated on the possibility of living in the end times.

Vance, who converted to Catholicism as an adult, noted that while he is fascinated by such prophecies, he tries not to focus on them excessively to avoid spiritual distraction from his duties. He also expressed concerns regarding certain AI developments, characterizing some technological influences as ‘satanic.’

Responses to his remarks have been mixed. Conservative author Rod Dreher suggested the comments would not harm Vance, noting that such beliefs are ‘very, very common’ among Republican voters. Conversely, some Catholic commentators expressed confusion, noting that while the Church discusses the Second Coming, the specific personification of the Antichrist is not a central tenet of Catholic teaching in the manner Vance described.
