J.D. Vance Feud with WSJ Columnist Kimberley Strassel Intensifies

Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel entered a public dispute with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance over his recent memoir tour. Strassel criticized Vance for promoting his book "Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith" during a three‑hour Joe Rogan interview on July 14 and called his focus on the memoir a neglect of congressional duties. In a July 16 column titled “President Vance Goes AWOL,” she urged Congress to have a dedicated White House ambassador and suggested Vance’s promotion of the book was inappropriate.

Vance’s allies responded sharply, demanding corrections and accusing the columnist’s supporters of “whataboutisms.” Strassel replied on July 23 with a follow‑up piece, “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, by J.D. Vance,” labeling him a “sensitive bunny” and advising him to develop thicker skin if he plans a future presidential bid. Vance has not publicly responded to the columns.
