JD Vance: Hormuz agreement could restore Gulf oil flows

U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated that a potential agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz could restore oil and natural gas flows from the Persian Gulf to pre-war levels. This follows ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman to establish a "traffic plan" to allow commercial vessels to navigate the critical waterway safely.

The Strait has been effectively closed by Iran since the onset of hostilities with the U.S. and Israel in February. While Tehran indicates that an agreement with Oman is "very close," the Iranian Foreign Minister noted that reopening the Strait depends on further conditions, including the payment of reparations by the United States.

The diplomatic developments coincide with a recent attack on a tanker attempting to transit the area, an incident the United Arab Emirates attributed to Iran. Vance emphasized that Washington is utilizing diplomatic, economic, and military tools to pressure Iran to commit to a permanent cessation of attacks on commercial shipping.
