JD Vance pledges crackdown on visa fraud and foreign labor replacement
During a campaign rally in Topeka, Kansas, Vice President JD Vance pledged to crack down on visa fraud and companies that replace American workers with lower-wage foreign labor. Vance framed these actions as a matter of national sovereignty, stating that American jobs should belong to American citizens.
While Vance did not specify a particular visa program, his comments coincide with ongoing legal challenges regarding skilled-worker visas. Federal courts in Massachusetts and California have previously blocked a proposed $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions, an issue of particular interest to Indian professionals who constitute the largest group of H-1B beneficiaries. The administration is currently appealing the California ruling.
Additionally, Vance discussed plans to prevent Wall Street and foreign investors from purchasing American homes and farmland. He also announced that the Department of Agriculture is providing millions of dollars in new grants to ten meatpacking facilities in Kansas to address the dominance of a few large companies in the meat processing industry.
